Choir History

The choir is one of the oldest in Devon; founded in 1900 by the Reverend A Gulley, priest vicar at Exeter Cathedral.  In 1932 the choir broadcast from the BBC’s Cardiff studios and regularly made recordings for the BBC throughout the war years.

On the retirement of the late Arthur Vellenoweth, the Exeter and Exe Valley choirs merged to become ‘Exeter Male Voice Choir’ in 1981, directed by Mr Ivor Ashman.  Mr Paul Collings was the Musical Director from 1992 to April 1997 and was succeeded by Mr Christopher Redwood.  The current Musical Director is Catherine Warren.

In 1993 the choir took part in the World Choir Concert at Cardiff Arms Park.

Today the choir averages 30 in number and presents concerts during the winter season raising money for various charities.
